About Temporary Resident Permit
Every individual who wants to enter Canada as either a Temporary (with Temporary Resident Permit) or Permanent resident needs to comply with the requirements set forth by the country’s immigration law, its rules, and its regulations – all the more so when it comes to health, human rights violations, or national security reasons.
Individuals who are otherwise deemed inadmissible to enter Canada as set forth by the provisions of its laws will not be allowed entry to Canada; however, if your travel to Canada is deemed to have been justified by a Canadian immigration officer at the time of your application for a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization, or upon your arrival at a port of entry to Canada, you may be eligible for a temporary resident permit. Individuals who apply for this permit will be required to demonstrate their reasons why their entry should be justified, against the aforementioned health and/or security risk they pose to the country’s population.
Temporary Resident Permit duration
A temporary resident permit allows an individual to gain legal entry to Canada; and stay for a set duration of time. Furthermore, an individual may also apply for a temporary resident permit at any point in time. Lastly, an individual receives it for the entire duration of the applicant’s stay in Canada (for a period of up to three years). Also, the permit can provide for the possibility of extension from within Canada’s borders.
Let us note that, however, that the permit will be made invalid if its holder leaves Canada’s borders; – unless a provision for re-entry to Canada was authorized upon the permit’s issuance. A Canadian immigration officer can also cancel at any time as s/he sees it fit. Certain situations will allow for the holder of a temporary residence permit to get permanent residency in Canada.
Application Process for Citizens of Electronic Travel Authorization-Required Countries
If you come from a country that requires citizens to gain Electronic Travel Authorization; and if you got a refusal, you may get a temporary residence permit based on the merits of your inadmissibility. And also for your reasons for traveling to Canada. You may need to liaise with the visa office responsible for the country or territory you belong to as it may have its specific form for Canadian temporary resident permits.
Application Process for Citizens of Visa-Required Countries
Citizens of visa-required countries will need to submit a regular temporary resident visa application supplemented by documents that demonstrate why you are inadmissible to Canada, as well as a justification for you to be able to enter Canada.
