The Government of Ontario had introduced the Ontario Tech Draw early in July 2019. With the last draw, totally 3,396 Express Entry candidates have received invitations to apply.
In general, Ontario is Canada’s one of the major tech hubs including cities like Toronto, Ottawa, and Waterloo. Tech draws are intended to meet the demands of growing labor requirements in the tech industry.
2019 CBRE Scoring Tech Talent Report states that Toronto has created more than 80,000 job openings between 2014-2019.
Ontario Tech Draw allows the government to search for eligible candidates in the Express Entry pool and invite them to receive the provincial nomination.
Skilled foreign workers are mainly registered in the Express Entry system. Receiving a provincial nominee certification adds 600 points towards their Comprehensive Ranking System score which guarantees to receive an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
Candidates who are eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class or Canadian Experience Class can get Canadian permanent residency through the Express Entry system.
All candidates registered in the Express Entry pool are awarded CRS score based on the information they have entered, and the highest-scoring applicants receive an invitation to apply for Canadian PR through regular draws which are held once in two weeks.
If you want to be considered for an invitation from Ontario, then you must have an active Express Entry profile. In general, many applicants with IT experience and high ranking scores have succeeded to receive invitations through the Express Entry draws. However, a number of provincial immigration streams make available for candidates with lower CRS score to rank high and get ITA’s.
For example, in the last round of Express Entry draw the lowest-ranked candidate to be invited had 459, whereas this figure for OINP Tech Draw applicants was 435. To point out, this score was even 3 points lower than the lowest CRS score required to receive an invitation through the federal Express Entry rounds so far this year.
