Study, Work and Immigrate to Canada | Canadapt Consulting
As international students, those who had their education in Canada, already know, there are many advantages of choosing Canada as your future education destination since you can study, work and eventually immigrate to Canada.
Canada is currently hosting about 600,000 international students which the figure is three times more compared a decade ago.
The Government of Canada is boosting its international student population which has tripled to 570,000 last year. According to ICEF, as of today, Canada is now the fourth largest country with a number of international students followed by the United States, UK, and Australia.
The higher intake figures for the country are related to the global explosion of students wishing to proceed with their future studies in Canada. UNESCO reports that the number of international students in Canada has increased by more than 2.3 million between 2000 and 2017.
It is predicted that the number is going to increase since the growth of the middle-class population also improves the rise in international students.
Why study in Canada?
Although Canadian students pay less tuition fee compared to international students, this fee is comparably lower than countries like the USA, UK, and the EU. In addition, the Canadian dollar is relatively cheaper than US dollar and as well as the British pound.
According to the Canadian Bureau of International Education, one of the major reasons international students prefer studying Canada over other countries is the quality of education delivered bu Canadian institutions. Also, the research revealed that Canadian schools have a very high rate of employability than other universities.
Another key point is considered Canada’s being open, tolerant and welcoming country for immigrants coming to Canada from diverse cultures and traditions. This, in turn, gives Canada an advantage over other western countries where anti-immigrant sentiment is increasingly growing in recent years.
Additionally, since the country offers a study-work-immigrate package to international students, it is also very meaningful to prefer Canada to start a new life.
Also, unlike other countries, which international students experience restrictions regarding employment during their studies, Canada enables students to work part-time while they study and full time during their regular school breaks.
Stay in Canada permanently after graduation
International students become qualified to apply for Post-Graduation Work Permit when they complete their studies. This, in turn, helps them to remain in Canada and seek full-time employment which can be expanded up to 3 years of time. Also, there are many provincial streams that focus on graduates to help them permanently immigrate to Canada.
Furthermore, international students graduated from Canadian educational institutions are awarded extra points towards their Express Entry profile which increases their chances to receive an invitation to apply through the federal Express Entry system.
The Canadian Government has launched the Express Entry system in order to invite highly educated and experienced foreign workers to become permanent residents.
The government realized that to retain its economic development it needs immigrants to compensate for its aging and retiring population. According to the data delivered by Statistics Canada, the majority of immigrants, once international students, succeed better in Canada’s labor market. This tendency is due to students being young, well-educated, and equipped with Canadian work experience.
The research also reveals that half of the international students currently studying in Canada have a plan to remain and build a new life in the county following their studies.
It is expected that, by time, there will be a continuous increase in Canada’s international student population due to the reasons mentioned above. In the other hand, Canada is working on diversifying its international student source countries by launching new programs that focus on simplifying study permit procedures for certain countries.
As of today, Canada’s main source of international students is India and China. The government sees diversification to be very important, since it wants to develop economic and as well as social connections also with other countries around the globe.
Having said that the recently announced international education strategy is planning to accept more international students from a number of different countries. The new strategy or plan covers 6 years, from 2019-2024.
